Mr. Owen Honored At White House

On July 19, 2011, Rockwell Elementary School’s principal, Robbie Owen was honored as one of the White House’s Champions of Change. He, along with seven other educators and six actors from across the United States, was selected for having made a significant difference through work with arts education. (Click on the link below to view Mr. Owen’s interview and blog on the White House website.) Rockwell Elementary School has been a Disciplined Based Arts Education school since opening in 1997. In 2003 Rockwell was named a CLAS Banner School by the Council of Leaders in Alabama Schools because of its accomplishments in arts education. University students visit Rockwell throughout the year to learn the concepts used to integrate arts into the curriculum.
